Make a date with Calendar Girls at theatre group’s show

The Beverley Theatre Company has announced that its next production will be Calendar Girls, by Tim Firth, based on the hit movie.

The story concerns the decision by a group of ladies from Yorkshire who are all members of Knapeley Women’s Institute to raise funds to buy a settee for the local hospital by creating a nude calendar to sell at the Great Yorkshire Show.

The play covers the reasons for this, the struggle to get the WI to accept it, and the success and aftermath of their endeavours.

The play marks the directorial debut of Helen Wild, a Beverley Theatre Company stalwart, who will be familiar to audiences for her roles in the past, including Flashheart in the production of Blackadder Goes Forth.

Many familiar faces appear and regulars will recognise the names of Kay Slater, Sam Kneeshaw, Emma Drew, Gemma Briggs, Angela Chapman, Cheryl Giles, Colin Walls, Tony Musgrave and Nev Slater.

The play also sees second appearances from Charlie Cross and Alison Healy and debuts from Jenny Taylor, Sue Allan and Chantelle Francis.

Calendar Girls will be performed, with the permission of Samuel French and Concord Theatricals, at 7:30pm from Wednesday 26th to Saturday 29th April at Beverley Memorial Hall on Lairgate in Beverley, with a licensed bar.

Tickets are priced £9.50 for adults, £8.50 for concessions and can be purchased at www.beverleytheatrecompany.com, from the Tourist Information Centre at the Treasure House in Beverley and on the door on the night.
