Beverley Town had a mixed month as they continue to adapt to life in the Northern Counties East League.
The highlight came as they picked up their first home win at Norwood, at the fourth attempt – a 5-1 thumping of Glasshoughton Welfare. Ollie Baldwin and Reece Moody put The Beavers 4-0 up just after half-time.
The visitors pulled a goal back from the penalty spot but Lewis Gibson wrapped up a five-star performance in front of another crowd in excess of 300.
The downside of the month came in a 3-1 defeat over the Humber Bridge at Brigg Town, followed by a heartbreaking loss at leaders Campion.
Town travelled to Bradford to face Campion on Saturday and led 2-1 with 15 minutes to go. But Marcus Day equalised and the prolific Ashley Flynn poached an 89th minute winner.
It leaves Beverley 13th in the Division One table with 14 points from their opening 10 games, but they are still in the League Cup after a 3-0 win at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
That set up a home tie with Premier Division side Hallam, due to be played tonight (Tuesday, 4th October, 7.45pm).
Manager Dave Ricardo said his team are adjusting to life at a higher level.
He told Beverley Life: “It was pleasing to get our first home win and to do it in style.
“After that, we have been unlucky because against Campion we should have been three or four up at half time and at Brigg, their goalkeeper made two or three fantastic saves.
“When you play against sides, at any level of the pyramid, the best-funded clubs are usually able to have a more consistent type of player.
“We have a lot of players who are working their way up and we are not as clinical as other sides.
“We have made a few daft errors which have been punished but if we can cut those out, and take our chances, we will improve.
“The players have been fantastic, and although we are 13th, we are as near to fifth place as we are the relegation zone, and we have played the top three sides.
“I’m disappointed we don’t have an extra four points, which would put us in sixth place, so things are very tight. We just need to turn positive performances into points.
“The support at home has been really pleasing. We are averaging crowds of about 290.”
