PHOTOS: Beverley 10k

Beverley 10k, one of East Yorkshire’s most popular road races, returned to its traditional May date last weekend, having moved to the autumn last year.

Almost 1,600 runners from near and far reached the finish line, completing the course that starts at Beverley Minster and heads out to the Westwood and back through the town centre.

This year’s winner was Oliver Newton from Thames Valley Harriers in London, who finished in 31:50. City of Hull’s Della Hatfield was the fastest female, 26th overall in 35:51.

Timmy Davies of Leeds City AC was second, nine seconds behind the winner, and East Yorkshire’s fastest time came from Will Atkinson of Yorkshire Wolds Runners who finished third.

Around 120 volunteers and friends of Beverley Athletic Club acted as marshals to cheer the runners on, but the club was still able to field a team of more than 50 runners.

Robert Sparkes led the team home, finishing seventh in 32:29, just two seconds ahead of team mate James Johnson.

Demi Lidster was the club’s first female, finishing 61st overall, and fourth lady, in a time of 38:03.

The club’s next major event is the Walkington 10k on Friday 8th July.
