Much-loved Beverley woman sadly dies following Norwood collision

A woman who was critically injured in a collision in Beverley has sadly died, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Norwood, near the junction with Mill Lane, at around 7.40am on Friday, December 19, after a grey Land Rover Freelander was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, an 81-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite treatment, she sadly died from her injuries on the evening of Saturday, December 20.

She has since been named by her family as Kathleen Barron, known to family and friends as Kath.

Kath’s family are being supported by specially trained officers and have paid tribute to her, describing her as “the centre of our family”.

In a statement, they said: “Kath was a wonderful mum, our much-loved ‘Baba’ to her three grandchildren, and a truly amazing sister.

“She spent her life caring for others, first as a nurse and later running her own care home, always putting everyone else before herself. Even at 81 she was full of energy, independent and always immaculate – just how we all knew her.

“She loved animals, treasured her family, and was loved by friends, neighbours and everyone who met her. Our hearts are completely broken, and we will miss her more than words can ever say.”

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while over the specified drug limit and causing serious injury by careless driving. He has since been released from custody pending further investigation.

Police say enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision. Officers are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time, to come forward.
