Beverley is one of Yorkshire’s best-kept secrets, full of architecture and history to admire.
The Minster is considered one of Europe’s finest Gothic churches and is the focal point of the town centre, while St Mary’s Church is just as impressive.
For over 1,300 years there has been a Christian community on the site of Beverley Minster.
The first community was founded by John, Bishop of York – the future Saint John of Beverley. Later, a Norman church was built on the site followed by the present Gothic church which evolved through the three main Gothic styles of architecture.
The Exploring Beverley Minster tours takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays while The Roof Tour Experience can also be booked.
The Flemingate Shopping Centre has high-street names, a selection of bars and restaurants and a charming cinema showing the latest releases, and families will enjoy bouncing around at Jump Inc trampoline park.
The town centre has streets and courtyards with interesting boutiques and popular markets, as well as plenty of historic pubs.
The Westwood pasture is great for a picnic or a dog walk, or you can enjoy a gentle stroll along Beverley Beck.
The Treasure House reopened earlier this year after a major refurbishments and is home to Beverley Art Gallery, a museum, library, cafe and landscaped gardens.
Nearby is East Riding Theatre, located in a converted Baptist chapel, which opened its doors for the first time in December 2014. and has since delivered an eclectic programme of quality theatre, music and entertainment to the people of East Yorkshire.
