The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has commenced work on a new affordable housing development on Burden Road in Beverley, aimed at addressing local housing needs.
The project will result in the construction of four new council houses, including two two-bedroom homes and two three-bedroom homes. Planning approval for the project was secured in February 2023, and local contractor Geo. Houlton & Sons was appointed to carry out the construction in April 2024.
In line with its commitment to boost local employment, the council is prioritising the use of regional contractors like Geo. Houlton & Sons for this initiative, which supports job creation and training opportunities within the community.
This development is part of the council’s broader strategy to enhance the availability of council housing across the East Riding of Yorkshire. The homes will be built to high standards to meet the specific needs of the local population.
A key focus of the project is energy efficiency. Each house will be equipped with air-source heat pumps and roof-mounted solar panels. Additionally, the scheme will incorporate technology that enables the council to monitor energy usage and cost savings for tenants, providing valuable insights for future housing projects.
Construction began in April, with funding sourced from the council’s housing revenue account and a grant from Homes England, the government body dedicated to facilitating new affordable housing.
The development is expected to be completed by early 2025, with new tenants moving in shortly thereafter. Allocations will be made in accordance with the council’s housing allocations policy.
