Golf at Beverley & East Riding Golf Club: A Sport for All Ages

Beverley & East Riding Golf Club has a longstanding tradition of welcoming golfers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the game on the scenic Westwood. Golf offers the perfect combination of social interaction, fun, and exercise, making it an ideal way to stay active while building friendships.

As a low-impact sport, golf is a great way to achieve the recommended amount of physical activity, as outlined by the NHS. With a handicap system designed to level the playing field, it’s a game where everyone, from age eight to 80, can play together and have fun.

One family who has embraced the sport at Beverley Golf Club is the Leaf family, who discovered a passion for golf in 2022. After being inspired by their young son Ronnie, who persistently asked to play ‘big golf,’ the entire family gradually got involved. Ronnie, now five, and his older sister Freya, 11, began their golf journey with the club’s junior fun golf. From there, the enthusiasm spread, and soon, parents Mark and his wife were both playing regularly as well.

“We started with the junior fun golf sessions, and Ronnie was hooked from the first swing,” said the Leaf family. “Freya soon followed, and before long, the whole family was getting involved. The support from Paul, the club’s pro, and Theo, who coaches, made the transition easy and enjoyable.”

The family shared how Beverley & East Riding Golf Club has created a welcoming environment for newcomers, providing equipment and offering flexible pay-as-you-go sessions. Today, the Leafs are full members, and Freya is even part of the club’s academy, aiming to gain her handicap.

The Leafs praised the club’s strong sense of community and the positive impact that golf has had on their lives, not just physically but socially as well.

“It’s a fun way to get out of the house, enjoy fresh air, and stay active. The coaching and support we’ve received has been fantastic, and everyone at the club has been so welcoming,” they added.

Outdoor exercise at Beverley & East Riding Golf Club offers not only physical benefits but also mental ones, helping to reduce stress, improve mood, and boost self-esteem.
