Fundraiser in memory of Elise
A fundraising event in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance will be held on Saturday evening in memory of talented 17-year-old photographer Elise Thomas who sadly died following a road traffic collision on the M1 near Wakefield in August.
The event will take place at the Moulders Arms in Beverley on 28th October, on what would have been Elise’s 18th birthday.
Organised by one of Elise’s closest friends Ruby Taylor, the evening will include karaoke, a disco, music and a raffle to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance which treated Elise at the scene before she was transported to Leeds General Infirmary by road ambulance.
Elise from Sledmere was on her way to see British pop band The Vamps, a band she had followed for some time and who she had photographed on several occasions, when the accident occurred on 12th August. She sadly died in hospital six days later.
Ruby said she wanted to do her bit to give something back to the wonderful crew of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance who did all they could to help her friend and hopes to make it a night to remember to celebrate the life of a beautiful person.
She said: “Elise and I were both keen on music photography and had worked together quite a lot, just this year we had photographed The K’s and the Kaiser Chiefs together.
“Elise was fun, loving, supportive and overall, just such an amazing person.
“She was the type of person who always had a smile on her face and literally never had anything bad to say about anything or anyone.
“She never complained and was always so supportive to all of her friends and family.
“Her funeral was something else; it was an absolute gorgeous send off for such an incredible person.
“I had been thinking of a way in which I could raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and give back to the people who got Elise away from the scene and into Leeds General Infirmary so quickly.
“With permission from her mum, I have decided to set up this charity event in loving memory of Elise for what would have been her 18th birthday.”
Ruby has been appealing for donations of raffle prizes for the event and has been overwhelmed by the response.
Among the prizes already donated are a £100 Chamas Voucher, an Afternoon Tea for two at Beverley Arms with a soft drink on arrival, a £20 Dunelm voucher and many more.
“I cannot get over how many people have wanted to donate raffle prizes, money and even just to come on the night to show support,” she said.
“We have already raised £300 on a sponsored “sober October” that one of the customers from the pub is doing, and all the money is going to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.”
