An old custom of Beverley, the town’s Big Pancake Race returned, with teams competing in a relay race over an 80-metre course designed to encourage a sensible mix of skill and speed.
Beverley Town Council supported the event through the sponsorship of awards and providing barriers and mascots, and the key organisers are The Rotary Club of Beverley along with Beverley Masonic Lodges.
The aim of the event is to raise money for local charities and bring residents and businesses together.
Cllr Linda Johnson, mayor of Beverley, said: “Beverley Town Council is proud to support this lovely community event. It’s just what the town needs to cheer everyone up as we come out of winter and move towards spring.
“Thank you to the Beverley Rotary Club and Masonic Lodges for making this happen.”
The event was revived in 2019 but had to be put on hold for two years because of the pandemic.
John Greenwood, the current president of the Rotary Club of Beverley, said: ‘‘I am delighted that we are able to run this event again as it was a great success when it was revived prior to the pandemic and a lot of fun for both spectators and competitors.’’
