Beverley Town Council held its annual Civic Awards at East Riding Theatre last Thursday, an opportunity to highlight the outstanding work which is carried out by community organisations and individuals.
Mayor Cllr Linda Johnson said: “There are a lot of community and voluntary groups out there and the Town Council think it is important to acknowledge them in this way.
“There is a strong community spirit in Beverley and a lot of good work takes place but is often unheralded.”
The evening was hosted by Gordon Meredith.
Good Neighbour Awards were given to Andy’s Man Club, Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club, Beverley Parkrun and The Wombles of Beverley.
A trio of new strategic partners were announced, East Riding Theatre, Beverley puppet Festival and Two Churches One Town.
After the interval, further Good Neighbour Awards were handed to Beverley and District Society, Beverley Against Poverty, Beverley Lions and the Community Ward at East Riding Community Hospital.
The Mayor’s Civic Award was presented to the High Sheriff of the East Riding, Jacky Bowes.
The highest award Beverley Town Council can bestow is that of Honorary Freeman or Freewoman of the Town of Beverley. This year, the title was given to Steve Rial, Roland Deller and Joanne Ramsay.
A collection was held for the mayor’s official charities, Guide Dogs and Open Doors.
