Beverley’s town bus services are to continue after East Riding of Yorkshire Council stepped in to fund them.
The Beverley Locals B1 and B2 buses were due to come to an end at the start of April after operator East Yorkshire decided it could no longer continue with the services on a commercial basis.
Now from Monday 3rd April, they will be replaced by new bus services 525, 526 and 527. They will run Monday to Saturday with slightly different routes and times.
East Yorkshire buses will operate the services under contract to the council and with the council’s funding.
Service 525 will serve the Swinemoor area, including Grovehill Road, Cherry Tree Lane, Sigston Road, East Riding Community Hospital, Warton Avenue, Holme Church Lane and Flemingate Monday to Saturday every hour between 0930 and 1530.
Service 526 will serve Copandale Road, Scrubwood Lane and Woodhall Way every two hours between 1000 and 1400.
Service 527 will serve Lincoln Way, the Morrisons store and Normandy Avenue every two hours between 1100 and 1500.
Information about the new routes and times will be available on the existing buses soon.
Councillor Claire Holmes, the council’s portfolio holder for planning, infrastructure and housing, said: “I’m pleased the council has been able to save Beverley’s town bus services and make sure they will continue to service passengers.
“Although the routes and times won’t be the same as before, I’m sure residents will be relieved the town will still have a regular bus service they can use, available six days a week.”
