Beverley RUFC’s ladies’ team played their first competitive match when they took on Driffield’s development team in a rearranged friendly fixture.
As this was a development fixture it allowed for three 20-minute thirds to be played meaning plenty of time for player rotation and lots of game time for all involved.
Driffield led 5-0 after the first period, thanks to a try from debutant Eleanour Towle.
Beverley applied plenty of pressure in the second third but could not make a breakthrough, and the visiors made them pay when they added their second try of the afternoon.
Driffield featured six debutants but had a little bit more experience than Beverley and they made this count in the final stages, as they added two further tries from Emma Appleby and a huge 60 metre break from full back Sammy Pugh.
Beverley battled hard and could feel aggrieved not to have got on the scoresheet when they were harshly adjudged to have been held up over the line.
