Festival of Christmas was one of the busiest so far

An estimated 50,000 people headed to Beverley town centre for the town’s Festival of Christmas.

The accompanying Made In East Yorkshire markets also proved popular, and organisers believe the main event was one of the busiest in its history.

More than 100 stalls were at the festival, which also featured a parade with reindeer, Father Christmas and the cast of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs pantomime at Bridlington Spa.

Cllr Jane Evison, portfolio holder for economic growth, investment and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The Made in East Yorkshire Christmas Market and the Festival of Christmas have both been fantastic successes this year and I’d like to thank the residents of Beverley and neighbouring areas for coming out and supporting local business.

“The market was only in its second year and I’m sure anyone who visited both years could see the huge improvement in such a short space of time.

“We had more stalls than ever before and footfall to the market was up significantly on last year.

“The festival is always popular but I’m told this was one of our busiest festivals of all time so huge congratulations to the team for delivering such a high-profile event.

“The festival is now rivalling other Christmas markets across the country and that is wonderful to see.”
