Efforts to reinvigorate Wednesday Market

Ideas are being explored to revive Beverley’s Wednesday Market after a falling number of stallholders in recent week, with no stalls at all on some occasions.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council says it is working on a marketing plan to try to attract stallholders back.

Cllr Jane Evison, the council’s portfolio holder for economic investment, growth and tourism, said: “All businesses are going through a tough time at the moment, with the cost of living and petrol going up, and recovery has been slow since the pandemic, so we understand why stallholders are not coming to Beverley’s Wednesday market right now.

“There is also a lot of competition with Beverley’s Saturday market, which is always popular.

“But our markets and local growth teams are working together behind the scenes to try to invigorate Wednesday market.

“They are currently working on developing a brand for the markets to boost advertising to show what a fantastic opportunity they are, and also looking to approach local businesses in the town to see if they would want to set up a stall.

“They are also exploring other ideas that would provide the opportunity to make each market day an event in the hope of kick-starting Wednesdays markets again.”
