Residents are being invited to open exhibitions to view plans for a proposed new household recycling centre for Beverley.
The current household waste recycling site at Weel, located right next to the River Hull, is prone to flooding and is becoming too small to cope with the amount of residents visiting.
Therefore, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has unveiled plans to replace the site by creating a new household recycling facility on land to the west of Ings Road, off the Grange Way A164/A1035 road.
Residents are urged to go along to one of the two open exhibitions to view the proposed new scheme, give their views and have the chance to speak to engineers and recycling officers from the council face to face.
The open events are to be held on Monday 17th October from 9.30am to 12.30pm and Monday 31st October from 1.30pm to 4.30pm at Beverley Enterprise Centre, in Beck View Road, off Grovehill Road.
The proposed centre has been designed much larger so there is capacity to cope with the area’s expanding population.
Traffic is due to follow a one-way system, there will be no stairs to climb, and the landscaped site will include a Reuse Shop, with parking and a long access road.
The scheme is expected to go before the council’s planning committee this winter.
If planning permission is given, work on the Ings Road centre is expected to start in spring next summer with a completion date in spring 2024.
Cllr Claire Holmes, the council’s portfolio holder for planning, infrastructure and housing, said: “The current household waste recycling site has outlived its location and has to be closed to users every time it floods, which is no good for residents or staff.
“The proposed site is much bigger, more spacious, offers better access and can cope with the number of visitors.
“We hope residents will attend these exhibitions as this is a chance to have their say.”
The council has 10 household waste recycling sites across the East Riding, which are all managed by FCC Environment.
The sites reuse, recycle and compost around 81% of all items taken along by the public, with 99.8% of waste diverted from landfill.
