A new solar farm, big enough to power 7,500 homes, could be built on the outskirts of Beverley.
Econergy, which operates more than 200 projects in six countries, is looking to create White Hall Energy on 34 hectares of land near Woodmansey.
The company says the facility would ‘make a significant contribution to the UK’s ambition to achieve net-zero in electricity generation by 2035’ and wants to hear the thoughts of local residents.
Humphrey Jamieson, land and planning manager at Econergy, said: “We are committed to hearing the views of the community to help shape our proposal for the solar farm and battery energy storage system.
“We are encouraging members of the community to get involved and have their say across our easily accessible communications channels.
“We have developed a range of options for in-person, online and via our dedicated communications lines to invite community feedback.”
Econergy has identified a site 1.2km west of Woodmansey and says it could help East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s commitment to help in the fight against climate change.
The solar farm would be capable of generating up to 25MW of clean, renewable electricity.
The BESS would have a capacity of up to 30MW, allowing the project to store energy on site and release it to the grid when it is needed the most.
Econergy says it has ‘extensive experience of working with communities to develop and operate energy projects in a considerate and sustainable way’.
It anticipates it will submit a planning application in the autumn and is running public information events before then.
There will be an online event on 7th September from 11am to 12:30 pm, and an in-person event on 8th September from 2pm to 6 pm at Beverley Memorial Hall.
