A road improvement scheme costing £315,000 is due to begin in Little Weighton, near Cottingham, next week.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is due to start the project on Tuesday 30 August, with the work lasting up to five weeks, weather permitting.
The work will be carried out along Rowley Road, from the junction with Riplingham Road to Sockenwood Corner, with work taking place on Mondays to Fridays, from 8am to 5pm.
The scheme will involve widening the existing road before resurfacing it. The widening process will involve recycling and reusing surplus road material from other sites, therefore reducing the impact on the environment and reducing the scheme’s carbon footprint.
Due to the width of the road, it will be temporarily closed during the scheme for the safety of workers and road users.
A signed diversion route will be in place from Riplingham Road along Westory Lane, Common Road and White Gap.
Access will be permitted to residents living inside the area of work, as well as the emergency services, bin collections and postal services.
The work will be carried out by contractor Britcon (UK) Ltd, as part of the council’s annual £12m programme of road maintenance work.
Councillor Chris Matthews, the council’s portfolio holder for environment and climate change, said: “I’d like to thank the local residents and road users in advance for their patience while this scheme is carried out.
“This is a vital project to widen and resurface this road and it will be greatly improved when the work is complete.”
