Title heartbreak for Beverley Town

Beverley Town’s hopes of clinching the Humber Premier League title ended in disappointment as they lost their final game of the season to their closest challengers.

The 3-2 home defeat to Hedon Rangers, meant their opponents had the chance to overtake the Beavers as they still had one more game to play.

Hedon Rangers celebrate a goal against Beverley Town in their dramatic 3-2 win in the title decider.

They obliged, beating South Cave 6-0, to snatch the Premier Division trophy from Town’s grasp. Beverley had beaten Hedon in the reverse fixture two weeks earlier and then seen off Cherry Burton and Pocklington Town to set up their chance to claim the silverware.

But they conceded twice in the first half against Hedon at Beverley Leisure Centre and late goals by Joe Norton and Ellis Short weren’t enough as Hedon won 3-2.

Mike Thompson’s men rattled in 98 goals in their 26 league games, with Norton leading the way on 20, but fell short of their overall target.
