Charges at council car parks in Beverley will increase by at least 10 per cent this month – with some fees going up by a whopping 75 per cent or more.
The sharpest rises are coming in at Butcher Row, where two hours is changing from £2 to £3.50, and Trinity Lane, where a one-hour ticket is shooting up from 60p to £1.10.
Increases at most other on-street and off-street locations are more modest, and annual permits for parking around the town will also be more expensive.
Permits to park in the controlled parking zone will go up from £30 to £35 for a household’s first vehicle and from £105 to £110 for a second vehicle.
Season passes for council car parks, which can be bought for one, six or 12 months, will increase with a full year’s parking set to cost £577.50 .
An East Riding of Yorkshire Council spokesperson said: “We will be raising parking charges in all council car parks and on-street spaces across the East Riding, from 19 May.
“This is the first time they have been increased in nine years. We have always resisted putting up parking charges when other prices have increased.
“However, this is now unavoidable because of the rising costs of providing car parking services.
“All rises are in line with inflation and, compared to other authorities, are still relatively low.
“The increase was agreed in February at a meeting of the council’s cabinet.”
East Riding Wide Daily Tickets can be used at more than one long-stay car park in the county on the same day.
These currently cost £5.40 but are set to increase to £6.30, an increase of more than 16 per cent.
