Back on the beck for barge society’s open day

Beverley Barge Preservation Society held its early season open day on 20th March, allowing members of the public to go along and see the work the organisation does.

From maintenance work on three boats to crewing on trips along the River Hull and helping at events, there is lots for members of the Society to get involved with.

The society is working with Beverley Town Council as part of a strategic partnership over the next three years and opens on selected Sundays during summer, on Heritage Open Days in September and for maintenance mornings on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am.

The March open day offered a chance to have a chat with current members and the opportunity to go onboard the Syntan and the Sun and take a trip on the Mermaid along Beverley Beck.

Tony Coates, of Beverley Barge Preservation Society, said it was a successful day.

“We had seven visitors who joined and paid their subscriptions on the day and many more who were interested and took membership forms away,” said Tony.

“Many of the new members have indicated a willingness to be active volunteers, which is invaluable in ensuring our continued success.

“We’d like to thank Beverley Life for its continued support and say that if anyone missed being able to visit on 20th March and are interested in joining, we are open most Tuesday and Friday mornings for them to visit and have a chat.”
