Beverley Town one step closer to non-league dream
Beverley Town Football Club’s dream of gaining promotion to the first step of the non-league football ladder took a major leap forward last month thanks to a significant investment from Cranswick PLC.
Town have been raising funds which would allow them to apply for a grant from The Football Foundation.
This would see floodlights installed and improvements made at the club’s Norwood ground ahead of an application to join the Northern Counties East League, which would potentially see Mike Thompson’s side face sides such as North Ferriby and Hall Road Rangers in 2022/23.
But tireless work from club officials behind the scenes has made the dream a reality.
With the help of Cranswick PLC, the ambitious target has now been reached and, as part of ongoing talks, the club has confirmed that the company has committed to making a major contribution towards the project, subject to overall funding being given by The Football Foundation.
“This is an absolutely amazing gesture by Cranswick PLC,” said Richard Jagger, Beverley Town’s club development officer.
“At one point it was in doubt whether we could raise the funds required to be able to apply for The Football Foundation grant.
“With this contribution from Cranswick PLC, I am delighted to announce that we have now reached our fundraising target of £30,000.
“I would like to say a huge thanks to Martin Davey at Cranswick PLC for his support in making this happen.”
Martin Davey, of Cranswick PLC, added: “Cranswick is delighted to have the opportunity to assist Beverley Town Football Club in its ambitions to progress and believe that the ground development will be a boost for sport locally.
“We wish Richard and his colleagues every success in the application to The Football Foundation.”
As it continues to work hard on and off the pitch, Beverley Town’s main goal is to be part of the NCEL.
The improved facilities will be designed to encourage the town’s youngsters to play sport, with the club providing a pathway from the junior ranks into first team football.
